Banners Displayed Inside House As Opposition Members Raise Concerns Over Electoral Process
Srinagar, September 25: Congress legislators on Friday staged a protest inside the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, displaying banners and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar as proceedings of the House resumed.
The Congress MLAs raised slogans and voiced their concerns over the functioning of the electoral process. During the protest, some members raised slogans alleging that democratic institutions had been undermined.
The demonstration took place on the fourth day of the ongoing Assembly proceedings, with Congress members using the floor of the House to press their demand concerning the Chief Election Commissioner.
The protest is also linked to the Congress party’s wider campaign seeking the removal of Gyanesh Kumar from the post of Chief Election Commissioner. The party has raised allegations concerning electoral-roll-related decisions and has called for an independent examination of the issues raised by it.
The Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly is currently holding its sixth session, which is scheduled to continue from September 21 to September 30, according to the official Assembly schedule.
The protest led to a politically charged start to Friday’s proceedings, with the Congress members continuing to press their demands inside the House.(KNC)
