Team deployed to inspect the issue; new water supply scheme from Navyug Tunnel proposed: AEE Jal Shakti
Anantnag, Sep 8: For residents of Tanjloo village in the Dooru belt of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, access to safe drinking water has become a matter of growing concern, with households alleging that the water supplied through a borewell-fed overhead tank has developed an unusual colour and taste.
Residents say the quality of the water has raised apprehensions about its suitability for consumption and have urged the Jal Shakti Department to take immediate steps to address the issue.
“The water supplied through the overhead tank appears contaminated. Its colour and taste are abnormal, and people are worried about the health implications,” said Kousar Gull, a resident.
Another resident alleged that people in the area frequently fall ill and said repeated requests to the authorities for a safe water supply had gone unaddressed.
“We are only asking for safe drinking water for our families. The authorities should act before the situation worsens,” the resident said.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), Jal Shakti (PHE), Dooru, Irshad Ahmad, said a departmental team had been deployed to inspect the matter and take necessary corrective measures.
He said the village was proposed to receive a new water supply scheme from the Navyug Tunnel and that work would begin after approval from the higher authorities.
“Once we receive the nod from the higher authorities, work on the new water supply scheme will commence soon,” he said. (KNC)
