Applicants No Longer Required to Visit RTO/ARTO Offices; Renewal Process Can Be Completed Online
JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 25: In a major move aimed at making transport services more convenient and accessible for citizens, driving licence renewal applications in Jammu and Kashmir for licences that have expired less than one year will now be processed through auto approval, Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Mahajan has announced.
Under the new system, eligible applicants will no longer be required to physically visit Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) or Assistant Regional Transport Offices (ARTOs) for licence renewal. The entire process can be completed online, allowing applicants to undertake the necessary formalities from home and obtain a printout of the renewed driving licence.
The initiative is expected to significantly reduce physical visits to transport offices, minimise paperwork and expedite the processing of eligible renewal applications.
The move forms part of the ongoing digitalisation of transport services in Jammu and Kashmir, with several driving licence-related services being made available through the government’s online transport platforms.
Vehicle Ownership Transfer Also Under Auto Approval
The Transport Department has also highlighted the introduction of auto approval for vehicle ownership transfers through the e-KYC process.
The facility, introduced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), enables eligible applicants to complete vehicle-transfer formalities online after fulfilling the required e-KYC requirements.
Vehicle owners have been advised to ensure that their e-KYC details are updated to avoid delays and facilitate smooth processing of ownership-transfer applications.
Citizens Advised to Use Official Online Platforms
The latest measures are aimed at making transport-related services faster, paperless and citizen-friendly, while reducing dependence on physical visits to government offices.
Citizens seeking driving licence or vehicle-related services have been advised to use only the official Parivahan and Sarathi platforms and avoid unauthorised agents, intermediaries and fraudulent websites or mobile applications claiming to provide government transport services.
The Transport Department’s digital initiatives are expected to further streamline service delivery and improve transparency and accessibility for citizens across Jammu and Kashmir.(KNC)
