Accused promised Rs 90,000 Computer Operator job, victim forced into online scamming

Srinagar, July 25 (GNS): The Economic Offences Wing Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a Pattan resident for allegedly duping a person with a fake job offer in Cambodia.

In a handout to GNS, the CBK said that the chargesheet has been filed in FIR No 19/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class against Mohd Yaseen Rather son of Nisar Ahmad Rather, resident of Kripalpora Payeen Pattan.

According to EOW, the case was registered on a complaint alleging that the accused fraudulently promised the complainant a job as a Computer Operator in Cambodia with a monthly salary of Rs 90,000.

Believing the promise, the complainant transferred lakhs of rupees into the accused’s bank account and also spent substantial amounts on visa processing, travel and other expenses.

However, upon reaching Cambodia, the victim was allegedly forced to engage in online scamming activities instead of being provided the promised employment.

During investigation, the allegations were established as proved and the chargesheet has accordingly been filed before the competent court.

Public Advisory
EOW Kashmir has urged the general public to remain vigilant against such economic frauds. People have been advised to report any such incidents to SSP EOW Kashmir Crime Branch J&K.

Victims of economic fraud can also submit complaints via email at sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in (GNS)
