Shopian, Oct 22:
In a continued effort to curb social crimes, the Shopian Police on Tuesday apprehended five individuals involved in gambling at Deegam Nagbal and recovered ₹45,000 in stake money along with playing cards from the site.

Acting upon a credible tip-off, a team from Police Station Shopian conducted a swift raid on the gambling den. Despite an attempt by the suspects to flee, the police managed to arrest all five on the spot.

The accused have been identified as Adil Rehman Wachkoo, son of Ab Rehman, resident of Hergam Shopian, Suhail Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohd Ahsan, resident of Keegam, Tariq Ahmad Bhat, son of Ab Gani, resident of Babmohalla Shopian, Sajad Ahmad Ganie, son of Ab Gani, resident of Berthipora and Sajad Ahmad Wani, son of Ali Mohd, resident of Mughalpora Keegam

A case under FIR No. 224/2025 has been registered at Police Station Shopian under the relevant provisions of the Gambling Act, and further investigation has been initiated.

Reaffirming its resolve to tackle social evils, Shopian Police stated that such operations will continue to ensure peace, order, and lawful conduct in the district.
