Srinagar, Sep 07 (GNS): Residents of Richawali Nambla in north Kashmir’s Uri are facing acute drinking water shortage for the last five days after a flash flood damaged the local water supply scheme.

Locals told GNS that heavy rains triggered a flash flood in a nearby nallah, washing away around five to six pipelines of the PHE water supply scheme. They alleged that despite five days having passed, the Jal Shakti (PHE) Department has failed to restore the supply, leaving hundreds of families to suffer.

The prolonged disruption has caused immense hardships to the residents who are entirely dependent on the scheme for their daily needs, they said, urging the department to act swiftly.

Meanwhile, a senior engineer of the PHE Department acknowledged the issue and said a proposal for the required pipes has already been submitted to higher authorities, but the material is yet to be received.

The officer said the department had offered a temporary restoration to the locals till the pipes arrive, but the residents did not agree to the temporary arrangement.

He assured that efforts are on and the damaged line will be restored soon.

Residents have appealed to the district administration to intervene and ensure early restoration of drinking water supply.(GNS)
