Srinagar, Dec 23 (GNS): The Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services Jammu and Kashmir, has ordered the temporary deployment of a fire tender at Boniyar to strengthen emergency response in the area.
As per an official order, a copy of which lies with GNS, a fire tender has been deployed at Boniyar for three months with immediate effect. The vehicle, the order say, was earlier attached with the Fire and Emergency Services Headquarters Srinagar. A team of eight officials from different fire stations has also been deputed to ensure effective manning and operational support during the deployment period or until further orders.
The order further says that an official presently posted at Fire Station Sonamarg has been directed to report to Fire Station Chadoora to assist drivers in Command Budgam during the deployment period.
The development follows a report by the news agency Global News Service (GNS) which exclusively highlighted the absence of a fire service vehicle in Boniyar and the risks faced by residents. Officials and local representatives acknowledged that the issue gained traction after it was carried by the news agency.
MLA Uri Sajjad Shafi in the meantime welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to Director General Fire and Emergency Services Alok Kumar for prompt action on the long pending demand of Boniyar tehsil.
The MLA said land for a fire station in Boniyar has already been identified. He said the deployment of the vehicle marks a step towards making Boniyar a fully functional fire service station. He said his availability to the public and stressed transparency in public service delivery.
Residents and civil society members have appreciated the move. They expressed hope that the fire service vehicle will be permanently stationed at Boniyar headquarters to ensure immediate response during fire incidents. (GNS)
