Uri, Sep 21 (GNS): Residents of Gowlta village in Uri were shocked after a dead snake was found inside the water supply pipeline of Sokad-Gowlta Water Supply Scheme.
Locals told GNS that the water supply scheme had remained blocked for several days, leaving the village without drinking water. Despite repeated requests to the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department employees, they alleged that no action was taken.
Fed up with the delay, residents on Monday inspected the pipeline themselves and found a dead snake stuck inside, raising serious questions over the safety and hygiene of drinking water.
The residents have urged the PHE Department to immediately inspect, clean and disinfect the entire pipeline and restore safe drinking water supply at the earliest.
They also demanded a probe into how the reptile entered the pipeline and sought measures to prevent such incidents in future.
Residents said that access to clean and safe drinking water is their basic right and appealed to authorities to take their grievance seriously.(GNS)
