September 21: Continuing its sustained efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse and dismantle the network involved in drug peddling, J&K Police have intensified checking and enforcement operations in Kulgam and Shopian districts, resulting in the arrest of three alleged drug peddlers and the recovery of charas and cannabis-like substances.
In Kulgam, Police Post Mir Bazar established a naka at Chidhama, during which a scooty bearing registration number JK03Q-4003 was intercepted for checking. During search, 21 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from the storage compartment of the vehicle. The rider was identified as Sahil Ahmad Wani son of Javid Ahmad Wani resident of Devalgam, Kokernag, Anantnag. The contraband has been seized and legal proceedings have been initiated in accordance with law.
In Shopian, Police Station Keller conducted naka checking at Keller market, during which a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK22-3033 was intercepted. During the search, 154 grams of charas powder-like substance was recovered from the possession of the driver, identified as Mohd Yousuf Chopan son of Gh. Mohd Chopan resident of Keller Bongam. The vehicle was also seized for its alleged use in the commission of the offence. Accordingly, FIR No. 96/2026 under the relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Keller, and investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the contraband and establish forward and backward linkages.
In another operation in Shopian, a police party from Police Post Keegam, during routine naka checking at Audoora Rampathri, noticed a person moving under suspicious circumstances and tactfully apprehended him along with a bag. During the search, 2.55 kilograms of crushed cannabis-like substance was recovered. The accused was identified as Gh. Mohd Mochi son of Rustum Mochi resident of Audoora Rampthri. Accordingly, FIR No. 199/2026 under the relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian, and investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the contraband and establish forward and backward linkages.
