Srinagar, Sep 23 (GNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said the government is actively implementing a scientific, multi-pronged strategy to address the stray dog population across Jammu and Kashmir.
Responding to a question in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said that under Animal Birth Control (ABC) and Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) drives, stray animals are being systematically sterilized and vaccinated.
Capacity at existing ABC facilities is being augmented, alongside creation of new centers and deployment of dedicated veterinary medical staff across Urban Local Bodies, he said.
To ensure comprehensive healthcare and prevention, anti-rabies treatment is being made available across health facilities under the National Rabies Control Programme. Solid waste management systems are also being strengthened alongside regulated feeding points to eliminate open food sources, he added.
Further, the Chief Minister said he has approved creation of dedicated Expert Animal Birth Control verticals under both Jammu and Srinagar Smart City Limited. The initiative will involve hiring specialized manpower, trained under modern ABC protocols, to be deployed across ULBs to tackle the issue scientifically.(GNS)
