Omar Demands Release of Sagar, Naeem Akhtar, Others

Srinagar, June 3 (GNS): Authorities on Wednesday revoked detention orders under Public Safety Act against former IAS officer and head of J&K People’s Movement (JKPM) party Shah Faesal as well as two other PDP leaders—Sartaj Madni and Peer Mansoor, booked following their arrest in August last year.  Faesal was booked under PSA in February 2020. Madani was lodged with NC’s general secretary Ali Mohammed Sagar at a government bunglow. Their detention had been extended on May 5 for a period of three months.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration had arrested most of the political leaders after the abrogation of Article 370 in August last year.Faesal was arrested on August 14, 2019 at the Delhi international airport and was put in preventive custody under Section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc). Following abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, many people including three former Chief Ministers were arrested.
Taking to twitter, former Chief Minister and NC leader Omar Abdullah hailed the released even as he demanded setting free party leaders including Ali Mohammad Sagar and Hilal Lone besides PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and Nayeem Akhtar.
“Good to hear @shahfaesal , Peer Mansoor & Sartaj Madani have been released from their unjust PSA detention. Disappointed that @MehboobaMufti , Sagar Sb & Hilal Lone continue to be detained. It’s high time they are set free as well,” he said in a tweet.“Also Nayeem Akhtar who remains under PSA along with Sagar Sb in a government bungalow on Gupkar road. He too should be released without any further delay. There is no justification for their continued detention,” he said in another tweet. (GNS)
