Srinagar, Mar 1 (GNS): The Mahashivratri, the marriage anniversary of Lord Shiva and Goddess Uma, which is most important festival of the Kashmiri pandits “Herath” was on Tuesday celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety in the Kashmir valley

The members of the community were seen visiting temples, particularly Shankaracharya on the hill top of Takhat-e-Suliman, since early this morning to pay obeisance.

The Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole paid obeisance at Shri Shankaracharya temple and performed Hawan during which he prayed for peace and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir and entire nation.

He said these festivals teach brotherhood, unity and harmony among diverse communities. He also said that all the facilities have been made available for the convenience of devotees at Shankaracharya and various other temples.

Meanwhile, SMC, Mayor also visited Shankaracharya temple and interacted with devotees and  extended his greetings and best wishes to them.

On the occasion, he said that a good number of local and non-local devotees have visited the temple and said that he expects the number will increase in coming years.
