11-Year-Old Girl’s Death Solved Through CCTV Analysis, Technical Surveillance and Coordinated Police Action; SSP Urges Motorists to Follow Traffic Rules

Kulgam, July 16 : Kulgam Police on Wednesday solved a fatal hit-and-run case by arresting the accused from Uttar Pradesh and seizing the offending vehicle after an intensive investigation involving technical surveillance, CCTV analysis and coordinated action with local police.

According to officials, the case relates to a tragic road accident that took place on July 10 near KP Colony, Vessu, where an unidentified vehicle struck an 11-year-old girl before fleeing the spot. The injured child was immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, where she later succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Following the incident, Police Station Qazigund registered FIR No. 176/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and constituted a dedicated investigation team to identify the accused and trace the vehicle involved.

During the investigation, police extensively analysed CCTV footage, examined available evidence and pursued multiple technical leads. Through sustained efforts and meticulous investigation, the team successfully identified the accused and located the offending vehicle.

Acting swiftly on the evidence gathered, a police team from Police Station Qazigund travelled to Uttar Pradesh, where, with the assistance of the local police, they arrested the accused, identified as Arun Gupta, son of Lalit Ram Gupta, a resident of Behrinbagh, Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. The vehicle involved in the accident was also traced and seized. Further investigation into the case is in progress.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam said the successful arrest demonstrates that criminals cannot escape the reach of the law by crossing state boundaries. He said the accused was traced through the effective use of technology, technical investigation and coordinated policing.

The SSP also appealed to motorists to drive responsibly, strictly follow traffic regulations and never flee the scene of an accident. He advised drivers to immediately stop after any road mishap, assist the injured and inform the nearest police station or emergency services without delay, stating that abandoning accident victims not only invites stringent legal action but can also cost valuable lives by delaying medical assistance.

Kulgam Police reiterated their commitment to delivering justice to victims and assured that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in hit-and-run incidents, irrespective of where they attempt to evade arrest.(KNC)
