Kupwara; May 29 (GNS): Police on Saturday claimed to have foiled an attempt by militants to smuggle three AK-47 weapons, four pistols besides other ammunition in Kupwara district of North Kashmir.
“Acting upon specific information Kupwara Police and Army (2 JAT) thwarted an attempt by militants to smuggle weapons in the Forward Jabdi Tangdhar of PS Karna area,” police said in a statement.
During the operation, as per the statement, huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot, which according to it included ‘03 Ak 47 rifles with 06 Magazines & 04 Pistols along with (9 Magazines).’
A case FIR Number 53/2021 u/s 7/25 IA Act has been registered in police station Karnah and investigations taken up, it reads.
“The timely recovery of huge cache of arms and ammunition has thwarted any possible untoward incident in otherwise peaceful region and has scuttled the nefarious plans of militant outfits to try derailing peace and harmony”, it reads adding further that “It was was a continued demonstration of Preventive intelligence by JK Police.” (GNS)
