Srinagar, June 28: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti on Sunday questioned the Jammu and Kashmir Government over the large-scale outsourcing of jobs to private companies, demanding transparency in the selection process and recruitment mechanism.

In a statement shared on social media, Iltija asked why “hundreds of crores” were being spent on outsourcing jobs through private agencies instead of following what she described as a transparent, merit-based recruitment process.

She sought answers on how the outsourcing companies were selected, what criteria were adopted in awarding the contracts, and on what basis people were being recruited through these agencies.

“Our simple questions to the J&K Government: Why are hundreds of crores being spent on outsourcing jobs to private companies? Who selected these companies and what was the selection process? On what basis are people being recruited without a transparent merit-based process? Will the government make these contracts and recruitment details public?” she said.

Along with her statement, Iltija shared documents listing outsourcing contracts across various government departments, including School Education, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Tourism, Revenue, Power Development Department, Tribal Affairs, Labour and Employment, Finance, Social Welfare, Election, Hospitality and Protocol, Floriculture, Estates and Information Department.

The documents indicate that thousands of positions have been outsourced over the past two years through different private agencies, with contract values ranging from lakhs to several crores of rupees across departments.

Iltija maintained that the government should place all outsourcing agreements and recruitment details in the public domain to ensure accountability and transparency in public employment. [KNT]
