Sopore, April 01 (GNS): The Drug Control Department seized an industrial unit on Tuesday in Sopore for illegal manufacture of handwash and sanitizers, as the valley faces acute shortage of such products. Reports reaching GNS said acting on a tip-off, a team of drug department officials raided the Industrial unit “U Safe” in Sopore area where hadwash and sanitizers under the tag name of ‘Activa Saffy” were being manufactured without having a proper license for such an activity. A huge quantity of raw materials used to produce handwash and sanitizers were also seized during the raid, reports added. Meanwhile, Assistant drug inspector Baramulla Bashir Ahmad confirmed the development to GNS and said a case has been registered against the unit holder on charges of violating the Drugs & Cosmetics Act & Rules. The officer said further investigation into the matter was underway. Amid the spread of COVID-19, the JK government had last month issued a stern warning against those found involved in hoarding and black marketing of protective masks, handwash and sanitizers.
