September 09: Continuing it sustained drive against illegal mining and transportation of minerals, police in Baramulla seized 06 vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of mining material from different areas of the district Baramulla
During wee-hours patrolling, two tippers bearing registration numbers JK01AH-5359 and JK09B-0611 were intercepted while transporting sand/minerals without valid documents. Mining Department officials were called to the spot, and both vehicles were seized under the relevant provisions of the MMDR Act. In a separate surprise checking at DPS Crossing, another tipper bearing registration number JK01P-1074, loaded with sand, was intercepted. The driver failed to produce valid royalty/dispatch documents for the material being transported. The matter was accordingly taken up with the Geology & Mining Department for necessary action.
Moreover, during the operation, three vehicles found transporting sand without valid permission and requisite mining documents were intercepted and seized. The seized vehicles include two tractors bearing registration numbers JK16B-4217 and 349846DX, and one JCB bearing No. H00D48278. The vehicles were found loaded with sand and being transported in violation of the applicable mining rules. Accordingly, the vehicles were taken into custody by the concerned Mining Department, and further legal action is being initiated against the violators under the relevant provisions of law.
Police reiterated its firm commitment to protecting the districts natural resources and taking strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities. The general public has been urged to cooperate with the police and report any such unlawful activities.
