September 15: Continuing its sustained efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse and illegal substances, J&K Police in Shopian has arrested two persons in separate operations and recovered contraband substances and liquor bottles from their possession.
During routine naka checking at Bongam, a police party from Police Station Shopian noticed a person moving under suspicious circumstances and tactfully apprehended him. During his search, 21 liquor bottles were recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Manthan Nitesh son of Nitesh resident of Maharashtra presently residing at Alyalpora Shopian. Accordingly, FIR No. 194/2026 under the relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and establish the forward and backward linkages.
In another action, a police party from Police Post Turkwangam during routine naka checking at Darazpora near SIDCO Bridge, apprehended another person. During his search, approximately 112 grams of a charas powder like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Faisal Rahid Bhat son of Ab Rashid Bhat resident of Sansamil Pulwama. In this connection, FIR No. 122/2026.under the relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the contraband and establish its forward and backward linkages.
