September 15: Continuing its sustained efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, J&K police have arrested 04 drug peddlers in Baramulla, Bandipora & Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Baramulla, a police party during naka checking at Devar area apprehended a suspected drug peddler identified as Syed Ahmad Shah son of Syed Mustafa Shah resident of Devar. During his personal search, approximately 02 grams of heroin-like substance, one mobile phone and ₹4,000 net cash were recovered and seized as per due procedure. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 214/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Pattan, and further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source and intended supply of the recovered narcotic substance.

In Bandipora, during dynamic naka checking at Shok Baba Sumlar near Hatchery, a police party of Police Post Sumlar, led by DO Sumlar, intercepted a scooty bearing registration number JK15C-5452. During search, a polythene bag containing contraband-like substance Charas, weighing approximately 1.150 Kg (1,150 grams), was recovered from the said scooty. The person in possession of the vehicle disclosed his identity as Haris Fayaz son of Fayaz Ahmad Wani resident of T.A. Shah. He has been arrested and the scooty used in the commission of crime has also been seized. In this connection, a case vide FIR No. 148/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Post Sumlar, Police Station Bandipora, and further investigation is underway.

Moreover, a police party of Police Post Aloosa apprehended another suspected drug peddler during naka checking at Sangri Top, Aloosa. The accused, identified as Umar Lateef Ganie son of Mohd Lateef Ganie resident of Krankshiv Colony, Sopore, was intercepted while travelling from Kehnusa towards Watlab. During checking, approximately 53 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 149/2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bandipora, and further investigation has been initiated.

In Awantipora, during naka checking at Punzoo Shaldraman, a police team headed by SHO Police Station Tral, intercepted an auto-rickshaw bearing Registration No. JK13D-8919, driven by Maqsood Ahmad Lone son of Farooq Ahmad Lone resident of Chak Noorpora, Awantipora. The vehicle was subjected to a thorough search, during which approximately 1.50 kg of poppy straw was recovered. He has been arrested and accordingly a case vide FIR No. 104/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tral, and investigation has been initiated. The auto-rickshaw used in the commission of the crime has been seized in accordance with the law.

J&K Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicate the menace of drugs from society and urges the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug trafficking.
