Jammu, May 02: Three labourers lost their lives, while one was rescued alive after a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed in the Thathar area of Bantalab in Jammu, officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to officials, four workers were engaged in construction work beneath the bridge when a section of the structure suddenly gave way, trapping them under a heap of debris.
Soon after the incident, rescue teams comprising Police, Army, SDRF, NDRF, and the civil administration rushed to the site and launched a coordinated rescue operation. Heavy machinery, including JCBs, was pressed into service to expedite the search and rescue efforts.
During the operation, one injured labourer was pulled out alive and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, three other workers were retrieved dead from the debris during the overnight rescue operation.
Officials told KNC that the rescue operation concluded at around 1:00 am after all trapped labourers were accounted for. They added that the injured worker is currently undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities have taken cognizance of the incident, and further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the collapse.(KNC)
