Uri, Feb 2 (GNS): Structural damage was reported in parts of Uri following an earthquake on Monday morning, with several residential houses developing cracks in Nambla village.

Local sources told GNS that houses belonging to Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, Ghulam Mohammad Awan, Abdul Majeed Sheikh, and Muneer Ahmad Bhat sustained visible cracks due to the tremors. “The earthquake triggered panic among residents, prompting many people to rush out of their homes as a precautionary measure,” they said.

When contacted, Tehsildar Uri told GNS that preliminary reports of damage have been received from different areas of the tehsil. However, he said that a comprehensive assessment was still underway and the exact extent of damage was yet to be ascertained. “Teams of revenue department and local administration teams have begun compiling detailed reports to determine the scale of losses,” he added.

Notably, an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 hit Kashmir Valley early on Monday with epicentre in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. (GNS)
