Jammu, Aug 24 : Jammu City experienced its second-highest August rainfall in nearly a century, with 190.4 mm of rain recorded in a 24-hour period until 8:30 a.m.
Details available with news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, The all-time August record for the city stands at 228.6 mm, which was logged on August 5, 1926. The previous second-highest rainfall was 189.6 mm, recorded on August 11, 2022, as per information from Kashmir Weather.
Heavy rainfall has led to a significant increase in water levels of rivers and streams across the region. In the Kathua district, the Ujh River has crossed the danger mark, it stated.
At the Panjtirthi monitoring station, the current water level is at 108,750 cusecs, well above the danger level of 88,000 cusecs. Similarly, at the Kathua station, the current level is 106,160 cusecs, surpassing the danger level of 95,099 cusecs, details stated.
Despite the heavy rain, Traffic officials as per KNC reported that traffic to be plying smoothly on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and the SSG road. However, both the Mughal Road and Sinthan Road were temporarily closed due to landslides.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has since cleared the landslide on the Mughal Road, allowing stranded vehicles to move from Chandimarh towards Shopian. (KNC)
