Sopore, Sep 3 (GNS): Police on Thursday attached properties linked to proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir in Dooru area of Sopore in north Kashmir under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
In a handout to GNS, the police said properties comprising two buildings, six shops and 02 kanals of land belonging to Islamia Model School Dooru (closed since 2022) were attached after completing due legal process.
The action was taken in connection with FIR No. 42/2025 under sections 10 and 13 of UA(P) Act registered at Police Station Sopore. During investigation, scrutiny of official and revenue records and verification through concerned authorities established linkage of the premises with JeI, police said.
Based on dossier submitted by Sopore Police, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir vide order dated 12.08.2026 notified the premises under section 8(1) of UA(P) Act, 1967. Subsequently, on request of Sopore Police, District Magistrate Baramulla issued orders under sections 8(3) and 8(4) of UA(P) Act.
In pursuance of these orders, Sopore Police along with Executive Magistrate carried out attachment of the properties on ground as per law.
Sopore Police said the action is outcome of sustained investigation to identify and proceed legally against properties linked to proscribed organisations and reiterated commitment to take firm lawful action against separatist ecosystem.(GNS)
