Srinagar: The Centre has informed Parliament that the estimated number of cancer cases in Jammu & Kashmir increased from 13,060 in 2021 to 14,493 in 2025, according to data compiled under the Indian Council of Medical Research’s National Cancer Registry Programme (NCRP).

Replying to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said cancer screening for oral, breast and cervical cancers is being carried out under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD), with services available through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and trained frontline health workers.

The ministry also said a nationwide HPV vaccination campaign for around 1.2 crore eligible 14-year-old girls was launched on February 28, 2026, while cancer treatment is being supported through Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, Jan Aushadhi, AMRIT pharmacies and the expansion of cancer care infrastructure across the country—(KNO)
