Jammu, Feb 12:The Omar Abdullah-led government has set a target of generating 50,000 private sector jobs over the next four years in Jammu and Kashmir, senior leader Satish Sharma said on Thursday, underscoring the administration’s renewed push for employment generation and economic revival in the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly in Jammu, Sharma said the government is committed to creating large-scale job opportunities by boosting private investment and strengthening the business ecosystem. He stated that efforts are underway to attract reputed national and international companies to Jammu and Kashmir, including global technology giants such as Google and Microsoft, with the aim of expanding employment avenues for local youth.
“The focus is on creating sustainable employment in the private sector. We are working to bring major companies to invest in J&K so that our youth can access better job opportunities,” Sharma said.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to daily wagers, Sharma said they would be regularized within a year. He described the issue as a top priority and said necessary policy measures are being formulated to address their long-pending demands. “It is our commitment that daily wagers will be regularized within a year,” he added.
Sharma also criticized the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) for charging examination fees from unemployed youth. He termed the practice financially burdensome for job aspirants and said the government is examining ways to reduce the strain on candidates seeking government employment.
The government’s announcements come amid rising public expectations around job creation and the regularization of temporary workers, key issues that have dominated public discourse in the Union Territory.(CNS)
