April 18: Continuing its efforts under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, J&K Police arrested 05 drug peddlers in multiple operations in Anantnag, Sopore and recovered significant quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In Anantnag, J&K Police has intensified its drive against drug peddling and narcotics smuggling, leading to the arrest of four accused persons and recovery of significant quantities of contraband substances. A Police party of Police Station Uttrasoo, during naka checking at Chatergul Chowk intercepted a vehicle (Alto) (JK03K‑9820). During search, 1 kg Charas powder and 100 grams Charas balls was recovered. Accused namely Farooq Ahmad Khan son of Fazil Khan resident of Poshnari is government employee and is working as class 4th in Vailoo court. Moreover, Acting on reliable information, a police team from Police Station Aishmuqam conducted a raid at the residence of Salman Saleem Rather son of Mohd Saleem Rather resident of Diyaroo in presence of an Executive Magistrate. During search, 2.590 kgs of crushed charas-like substance (Bhang Bhoosa) was recovered. In another operation, a police party from PS mattan during naka checking at Bumzoo KP Road near Foot Bridge Nambal, Intercepted a suspicious person namely Aaqib Ahmad Shah son of Gh Hassan Shah resident of Shaksaz Mohalla Seer Hamdan. During search of his bag, 3 kgs of grinded cannabis leaves, flowers and seeds was recovered. In a separate action, on specific input, a police party from PS Bijbehara, conducted a raid at the residence of Irfan Gani Kandroo son of Abdul Gani Kandroo resident of Adder Bijbehara. During search, 5.03 kgs of charas powder-like substance was recovered from his residential house.
In Sopore, J&K Police apprehended a drug peddler under the jurisdiction of Police Station Panzalla. During naka checking at Tarbal Rohama, a suspicious individual was intercepted and apprehended. Upon personal search, contraband charas-like substance was recovered and seized as per due procedure. The accused has been identified as Shahid Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir resident of Mirpora Rohama, Rafiabad.
All the accused have been arrested and accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations, and further investigation is underway to unearth the broader network involved.
J&K Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicate the drug menace and urges the general public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug peddling or illegal activities.
