KULGAM, SEPTEMBER 26: Kulgam Police on Saturday carried out a comprehensive district-wide inspection of SIM card vendors as part of efforts to prevent the fraudulent issuance and misuse of mobile connections and ensure strict adherence to telecom regulations.
Special police teams conducted inspections at SIM-selling outlets across different areas of the district and examined whether vendors were following the prescribed Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures and other mandatory verification requirements.
During the inspections, vendors were directed to strictly comply with the guidelines issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), including biometric Aadhaar-based verification, physical presence of customers during SIM issuance and proper documentation of subscribers.
Police also stressed that SIM cards must not be activated without completing the prescribed verification process. Vendors were instructed to obtain confirmation through an alternate mobile number before activation, refrain from keeping or selling pre-activated SIM cards, and ensure that electronic billing procedures are followed for every transaction.
The district-wide exercise is aimed at plugging loopholes in the SIM issuance process and strengthening safeguards against the misuse of mobile connections for fraudulent or unlawful activities.
Kulgam Police said such inspections and verification drives will continue across the district to ensure compliance with established telecom norms and strengthen security measures related to mobile connectivity.
Police have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, irregularity or violation concerning the sale, issuance or use of SIM cards to the concerned authorities.
Kulgam Police appealed to citizens and telecom vendors to extend full cooperation in maintaining secure and responsible telecom services across the district.(KNC)
