Kulgam, October 08: In a major action against the illegal trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances, Kulgam Police has seized 25 bottles of Codeine syrup and arrested two persons during a naka checking operation at Qazigund.
According to police, acting on reliable information and following due authorisation, a police party established a naka at Choimulla on the National Highway. During checking, a blue Volkswagen Polo bearing registration number JK03D-7723, which was travelling from Jammu towards Mirbazar, was intercepted.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered 25 bottles of Codeine, each containing 100 ml, concealed inside a black bag. The two persons travelling in the vehicle were subsequently taken into custody.
In connection with the recovery, FIR No. 243/2026 has been registered at Police Station Qazigund under Sections 8/21-29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police said that an investigation has been initiated to establish the source of the recovered contraband and ascertain the wider network and linkages involved in its transportation and distribution.
Kulgam Police reiterated its commitment to intensifying the fight against the drug menace and said that stringent action will be taken against individuals involved in the illegal trafficking and distribution of narcotic and psychotropic substances.(KNC)
