Srinagar, April, 23 (GNS): Police on Thursday arrested a newly recruited militant from Neehama area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir. A police spokesman in a statement said that following information developed by Kulgam Police, a checkpoint was established by Kulgam Police, 34 RR and CRPF 18 Bn at various locations to apprehend a militant. “At one such checkpoint in Nihama, the militant namely Shakir Alie of DH Pora was spotted and parties swing into action to apprehend him. The militant tried to lob a hand grenade in an attempt to escape but was unable to do so as the parties tactfully apprehended him,” the spokesman said. From his possession, a hand grenade, one handgun and 6 rounds of ammunition compatible with the handgun have been recovered, the spokesman said. In this regard, a case under FIR number 48/2020 has been registered in PS DH Pora under relevant sections of law, he said. “The militant had gone missing on 14 April 2020 and had joined HM militant ranks. It would be pertinent to mention here that the militant was apprehended earlier in 2018 as well against his attempts to join militancy ranks but due to lack of evidence he was released without charges,” the spokesman added.
