Srinagar, Sep 17 (GNS): Peoples Conference chairman and MLA Sajad Lone on Thursday questioned the J&K Assembly Secretariat for not informing him about the status of his resolution seeking discussion on the alleged rigging of 1987 Assembly elections.
Lone said he had submitted two resolutions for the upcoming autumn session — one concerning the recent power tariff hike and another relating to the 1987 elections.
In a post on X, as per GNS, Lone said the Assembly Secretariat had informed him that his resolution against the power tariff hike had been admitted, but there had been no communication regarding the resolution on the 1987 elections.
“The Jammu & Kashmir Assembly cannot act like a post office that sends convenient letters but hides the inconvenient ones,” Lone said, alleging that the House cannot function as a “pro-government courier agency.”
He said the Assembly Secretariat was the custodian of the rights of all legislators and the trust placed in them by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to Rule 179 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the House, Lone said the rule clearly states that “The Secretary shall give intimation to a member that his resolution has been admitted or disallowed or admitted as amended by the Speaker, as the case may be.”
He said the use of the word “shall” made it mandatory for the Secretariat to communicate the status of a resolution to the concerned member.
“Denial of information would be a breach of the Rules,” Lone said, adding that he had written to the Assembly Secretariat over the matter.(GNS)
