Jammu, 12 February 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu & Kashmir, launched a scathing attack on the Omar Abdullah-led government, accusing it of deliberately lowering the dignity of the Legislative Assembly, and misleading the people through unfulfilled manifesto promises, across the Union Territory.
J&K BJP spokespersons Dr. Abhijeet Jasrotia, and Dr. Tahir Chowdhary, accompanied by Media Incharge Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, were addressing a press conference at party headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
Addressing the press conference, Dr. Abhijeet Jasrotia strongly condemned the recent ruckus and repeated disruptions in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly. Dr. Jasrotia alleged that the chaos was not incidental but “carefully engineered” to divert public attention from governance failures.
In a strongly worded statement, Dr. Jasrotia described the Chief Minister’s conduct as “unfortunate, highly condemnable, and unbecoming of the dignity of the office.” He alleged that the use of objectionable language and repeated disruptions appear to be an attempt to divert public attention from the pressing issues faced by the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
He emphasized that the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly is among the most closely watched legislative institutions in the country and beyond, representing every section of the region’s population. “The Chief Minister must understand that his words and actions directly affect the credibility and dignity of the high office he holds. He should immediately restore decorum, exercise restraint, and act responsibly,” Dr. Jasrotia said.
Questioning the government’s performance, he further stated that the Chief Minister owes clear answers to the people. “After one-and-a-half years in power, what tangible contributions has his government made? The public is waiting for accountability — not theatrics,” he remarked.
Dr. Jasrotia also expressed concern over what he termed the growing similarity in style between the Chief Minister and his Deputy Chief Minister, advising that such influences do not suit the stature and personality of the office.
He concluded by stating that while political differences are natural in a democracy, responsible leadership must prevail. “As Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah represents the entire Jammu & Kashmir. The people expect mature governance, not street-level rhetoric,” he said.
Speaking on livelihood issues, Dr. Tahir Chowdhary raised the concern of nearly 40,000 daily wage workers in the Union Territory. He said delays in wages and lack of job security were severely affecting their families, estimating that over two lakh people were indirectly impacted. He questioned whether the government had any clear budgetary provision or policy roadmap to resolve their issues.
He described the situation of daily wagers as a serious humanitarian concern, noting that many workers were struggling to pay school fees and manage household expenses amid rising costs of living. He said these were not minor issues and required urgent attention.
Chowdhary further alleged that several welfare assurances — such as free electricity units, LPG cylinders, ration benefits and free bus services for women — were either not reaching beneficiaries fully or facing implementation gaps on the ground. He claimed that people were raising questions about where these promised benefits were.
Both leaders reiterated that the BJP stands firmly with daily wage workers and ordinary citizens and will continue to raise their concerns at every appropriate forum.
They urged the government to shift its focus from political rhetoric to governance delivery, youth welfare, economic stability, and restoration of decorum in the Assembly to protect the image and democratic dignity of Jammu & Kashmir.
