Seeks motion calls for immediate intervention to ensure safety of students and workers from J&K

Jammu, Feb 3 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA from Pulwama, Waheed Ur Rehman Para, has submitted an adjournment motion in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly seeking urgent discussion on the alarming rise of hate crimes, harassment, and targeted violence against Kashmiri students and working-class citizens in various parts of mainland India.

As per the motion submitted to the Assembly Secretariat a copy of which lies with news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, Para highlighted that Kashmiri students living in hostels or rented accommodations, and laborers employed in factories, hotels, and small establishments, have faced verbal abuse, threats, forced eviction, and physical assaults solely on account of their identity.

The MLA stressed that these incidents have created widespread fear and insecurity among thousands of Kashmiri youth pursuing education and employment outside the Union Territory.

Calling the issue of “immediate and grave concern,” Para urged the House to express collective concern, demand protection and security arrangements, and seek intervention from the Union Home Ministry and State Governments to ensure strict action against perpetrators. He also proposed establishing helplines, nodal officers, and safe accommodations for Kashmiris in vulnerable regions, emphasizing that discrimination and violence based on identity will not be tolerated in a democratic society.

The adjournment motion is expected to come up for discussion in the Assembly soon, reflecting the PDP’s focus on protecting the rights and dignity of Jammu and Kashmir’s citizens living outside the Union Territory. (KNC)
