Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 05 drug peddlers in Handwara, Awantipora & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Handwara, a police party of Police station Kralgund headed by SHO PS Kralgund at a checkpoint established at Pandithpora Kralgund intercepted a person identified as Mohd Yaseen Malik son of Bashir Ahmad Malik resident of Humpora Kralgun. During search, 45 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

In Awantipora, a police party of Police Station Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Y Junction Barsoo Awantipora arrested a drug peddler identified as Aijaz Ahmad Sultan son of Sonnullah Sultan resident of Wanihama-Payeen Hazratbal Srinagar. During search, 18 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

In Kulgam, a Police party led by Incharge Police Post Mirbazar during patrolling at Furrah near railway bridge intercepted 02 suspicious persons, who on noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully by alert police party. During search, 13 grams of Brown Sugar like contraband substance was recovered from their possession. The accused persons have been identified as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh son of Farooq Ahmad Sheikh resident of Bangi Dar Anantnag and Umer Ahmad Lone son of Mohd Ramzan Lone resident of Hangir Yaripora. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Qazigund where they remain in custody.

Moreover, a police party headed by Incharge Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Mirbazar Chowk intercepted a suspicious person identified as Aadil Ahmad Khan Son of Gull Mohd Khan resident of Ashajipora A/P Bangi Dar Anantnag. During search, officers were able to recover 05 grams of Brown Sugar like contraband substance from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
