September 25: Police in Baramulla intensified its enforcement drive across the district to strengthen compliance with traffic laws, safeguard tourists and visitors, and curb illegal mining and unauthorised extraction of minor minerals.
During naka checking in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kunzer, police seized 11 vehicles for various violations of the Motor Vehicles Act. Six vehicles including Tavera JK01BA-8406, Tavera JK01P-3134, Tavera PB01A-3112, Tavera JK01AB-1427, Maruti 800 JK01L-0936 and motorcycle JK01M-9154 were found without requisite documents and were seized under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act. In addition, Scorpio JK05N-9708, motorcycle JK01X-4267, Bolero JK01AB-2219, Scooty JK05L-5291 and motorcycle JK04G-3787 were found being driven without valid Registration Certificates (RCs) and Driving Licences (DLs) and were proceeded against as per law.
In a separate enforcement drive in the Gulmarg-Tangmarg area, Police intensified checking against vehicles involved in tourist overcharging, harassment, permit violations and other traffic offences. During the drive, 07 vehicles were seized and 05 vehicles were challaned under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The vehicles proceeded against include JK05N-6429, JK05D-4515, JK05N-1502, JK13C-4852, JK05P-0482, KJ01AX-3022, JK05M-4709, JK01AA-8006, JK05M-4050, JK05E-2063, JK05P-9581 and JK05J-9295, besides a Scorpio found operating without the required domestic permit.
J&K Police also continued its crackdown on illegal mining and unauthorised extraction of minor minerals. During a night naka at Delina, a tipper carrying illegally extracted sand was intercepted and seized. In a separate action, one motor being used for illegal sand extraction was also seized. Necessary legal action has been initiated under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act.
J&K Police reiterated that strict legal action will continue against individuals and vehicle operators found violating traffic laws, exploiting or harassing tourists, breaching prescribed fares or permit conditions, or engaging in illegal mining and extraction activities.
All motorists and commercial vehicle operators have been advised to carry valid vehicle documents and driving licences, comply with permit and fare requirements, and strictly adhere to traffic and other statutory regulations.
