Rape Accused Among 2 Kill SPO, Injure Other With Axe In Kishtwar

Decamps With Their Rifles, Manhunt Launched

Kishtwar, April 13 (GNS): Two SPOs of Jammu and Kashmir police were attacked with an axe by two persons, one of them a rape accused, in Dachhan area of Kishtwar district on Monday. While one of them died, other was critically injuring. The attackers also decamped with the service rifles of the SPOs.

Sources told GNS that the attackers hit Khursheed Iqbal (No 1328/SPO) son of Javid Iqbal of Palmar and Vishal Singh (No 1342/SPO) son of Chandail Singh of Tata Pieno Padder at Tandar area of Dacchan. Both the SPOs were rushed to hospital where doctors declared Iqbal brought dead on arrival while Singh has been admitted in critical condition.

Soon after the attack, reinforcements of police and security forces were rushed to the spot to trace the attacker who has been identified as residents of Tandar Dachan.

Director General of Police Dilbag Singh told GNS that the attack took place around 1330 hours.

“A police picket at Tander Kishtwar reported that two assailants attacked two SPOs at some distance from the post Tander Dachin with axes and seriously injured both of them. Later (one) SPO succumbed to the injuries,” he said. The top police officer said that a party from the post rushed to the spot and evacuated the injured. “Both the assailants have been identified as two local youths and an operation started under the district SSP to track them down. The suspected (miliytants) took away two weapons form the SPOs,” he said.

Meanwhile police in a statement said: “A rape accused released 20 days back in wake of spread of coronavirus attacked police party in Dachhan in Kishtwar district.

It said the SPO duo had gone to higher reaches to get better network signal so that they could recharge their mobiles online. “A cordon-and-search has been launched to nab the attacker,” reads the statement.

The police identified the rape-accused as Ashiq Hussain of Tander Dachhan and aid that he is involved in the case (FIR no 06/2018) under section 363,376 RPC of police station Dachhan.

The police had filed challan in the case on 27 September 2018 while the accused was detained in District Jail Kishtwar. (GNS)
