Srinagar, Nov 3: In a remarkable medical achievement, Dr. Mir Sammiullah from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, has set a new world record for performing the fastest laparoscopic cholecystectomy, completing the procedure in just 2 minutes and 38 seconds.

The record-breaking surgery, performed on September 29, 2025, has been officially recognized by the International Book of Records. Dr. Sammiullah’s performance surpassed the previous record time of 2 minutes and 55 seconds, establishing a new benchmark in the field of minimally invasive surgery.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, commonly known as gallbladder removal surgery, typically takes between 30 to 90 minutes to perform under standard conditions. Achieving the procedure safely in under three minutes reflects an extraordinary level of surgical precision, skill, and experience.

Dr. Sammiullah, known for his expertise in laparoscopic procedures, dedicated the achievement to his mentors, medical team, and the healthcare fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the recognition is a motivation to further enhance surgical standards and promote innovation in patient care. [KNT]
