Srinagar, Sep 18 (GNS): Bringing relief to patients across Jammu and Kashmir, National Health Mission employees have decided to end their strike and resume work after getting a written assurance from Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo.

Sources told GNS that the breakthrough came after a meeting between the striking employees and the government, where the minister gave assurance in writing that their legitimate demands will be examined and necessary steps will be taken.

With this assurance, the NHM staff have suspended their agitation and decided to join back duties. The move is likely to bring major relief as health services in several areas had been affected due to the strike.

The employees have been demanding settlement of their long-pending issues related to job security, regularization and other service matters.

The employee leaders expressed gratitude to the minister for giving a written assurance and said they are hopeful that the government will fulfill the promises made.

The restoration of NHM services is expected to streamline healthcare delivery across the Union Territory.

NHM staff from various districts, hospitals, health centres and other healthcare institutions across Jammu and Kashmir had joined the protest, which continued peacefully for the past 9 days. (GNS)
