Shopian Court Convicts Two in Minor Girl Abduction, Rape Case; Sentences Awarded

Shopian, Oct 24: The Court of Sessions Judge Shopian Friday convicted and sentenced two persons in connection with the abduction and rape of a minor girl from Zainapora area, registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

As per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the case pertained to FIR No. 150/2022 registered at Police Station Zainapora under Sections 363 IPC and Sections 3/4 and 17 of the POCSO Act.

The convicts Yawar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, and Mehraj Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Gaffar Dar, both residents of Khajpora Zainapora were found guilty of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2022.

Following a detailed hearing, the Court sentenced Yawar Ahmad Sheikh to five years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹20,000, while Mehraj Ahmad Dar was sentenced to five years of imprisonment with a fine of ₹10,000.

The judgment was pronounced by the Hon’ble Sessions Court, Shopian, after examining all witnesses and evidence presented during the trial.(KNC)
