Bandipora, Jan,18(GNS): The residents of Naninara, Sumbal are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for failing to provide adequate electricity in their area and unilaterally raising the monthly tariffs.
Inhabitants of the village blocked the Sumbal-Bandipora  road to lodge their protest against the PDD department for inadequate and erratic power supply in the area.
A large number of protesters gathered and raised slogans against PDD  and the administration for not providing a solution to their problem.
The residents of the areas told GNS  that the Power Development Department (PDD) is subjecting them to unscheduled power cuts in the bone-chilling cold.”We are continuously pleading before the higher-ups in this regard, while the authorities earlier had assured them to rectify the problem at the earliest, but it only proved a hoax. They added that they are facing immense hardships due to the non-availability of electricity in the area. ”The villagers threatened to hit the roads in protest against the PDD department if the unnecessary power cuts in the areas continue.

Meanwhile Police and PDD Exn rushed to the spot and assured the protesters that the issue would be resolved as soon as possible.
While taking to Exn PDD sub Division Sumbal told GNS  Due to cold, people are not getting electricity as per schedule. The reason is more load in electricity because people are not using electricity properly. A 10MV transformer is to be installed for the Sumbal  area, which will solve the problems of the people.
On the assurance, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was later restored on the road.(GNS)
