Srinagar, Sep 27 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) MLA from Khan Sahib, Saif-ud-Din Bhat, is set to introduce a bill in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly aimed at providing a framework for the registration, recognition and accreditation of digital news publishers and social media news channels operating in or from the Union Territory.
According to the proposed legislation, the bill seeks to promote transparency in ownership and editorial responsibility among digital news organisations and establish mechanisms for real-time media monitoring and fact-checking.
The proposed framework is intended to cover digital news publishers and social media-based news channels functioning within or from J&K, with provisions relating to their registration, recognition and accreditation.
The bill also seeks to establish mechanisms aimed at strengthening accountability and addressing the spread of misinformation through digital platforms, while defining responsibilities related to news publishing and editorial practices.
Saif-ud-Din Bhat is the JKNC MLA representing Khan Sahib constituency in the J&K Legislative Assembly.(GNS)
