Ganderbal, June 9 : Tragedy struck central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday when two minor children lost their lives after drowning in an irrigation canal in the Goripora area of Kangan.
According to officials, the incident occurred at the Baba Canal in Goripora village after the two children accidentally slipped into the fast-flowing water and were swept away by the current.
The deceased have been identified as Ashiya, daughter of Mohammad Amin Lone, and Mohammad Imran, son of Mohammad Iqbal Lone, both residents of Goripora, Kangan.
Following the incident, local residents and volunteers rushed to the spot and launched an immediate rescue operation. After strenuous efforts, both children were retrieved from the canal. However, officials said the minors had succumbed before they could be rescued.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further proceedings into the matter. (KNC)
