Kulgam, Sep 9: Two soldiers of the Army and two militants were killed on Monday in a fierce encounter in the Gudar forest area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, while a senior officer was among the injured.

Officials said that during the heavy exchange of fire, a soldier from 9 Rashtriya Rifles and Naib Subedar of 10 Para (Special Forces) laid down their lives in the line of duty.

A Major of 9 Rashtriya Rifles also sustained injuries in the operation but was reported to be stable.

The encounter erupted after a joint team of the Army, J&K Police, and CRPF launched a search operation following intelligence about militant presence in the forest belt. Two militants have been neutralized so far, while the operation remains underway.

Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the site, and the area has been cordoned off as forces continue to flush out any remaining militants. [KNT]
