“The farm was my family’s livelihood, but I have been left to bear the loss and it feels like no one hears the voice of a poor people, says owner Nisar
Devsar (Kulgam), Oct 4: Two years after more than 3,000 trout fish died at his farm in Kilam, a local fish farmer is still awaiting ₹2.7 lakh compensation, despite the Government directing the concerned contractor, BS Builders, to compensate him for the reported loss.
Nisar Ahmad Shan, owner of the trout farm, alleged that contaminated water entered the farm during construction work on the Brazloo bridge over the Veshow Nallah, resulting in the death of thousands of trout and causing substantial financial losses.
“I had invested my hard-earned money and years of effort in establishing the farm as a source of livelihood for my family. The sudden flow of dirty water into the farm polluted the water and killed thousands of trout. The Government directed the contractor to pay ₹2.7 lakh as compensation, but two years have passed and I am still waiting for the payment,” Shan said.
“I have completed the required formalities and approached the concerned authorities several times. I was assured that the compensation would be released, but nothing has been paid to me so far. I request the Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, to intervene personally and ensure that the compensation is released without any further delay,” he said.
The farmer said the prolonged delay has added to his financial difficulties and urged the administration to ensure implementation of the Government’s direction.(KNC)
