New Delhi, Sep 20: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, former Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi and CBI Director Praveen Sood are among several prominent voters who have received notices from election authorities in Delhi during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Jaishankar and his wife, Kyoko Jaishankar, have been categorised as “unmapped with last SIR”, as their current electoral records could not be linked with the rolls prepared during the previous revision. They are registered in the Sunder Bagh electoral part of the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
Sood, his wife Vanita Sood and mother Kamlesh Sood, as well as General Dwivedi and his wife Sunita Dwivedi, have received notices under the same category.
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and members of his family have also been served notices over discrepancies in electoral details, including self-name and parent-name mismatches. Former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Desai and members of her family have similarly been listed as “unmapped with last SIR”.
Several serving and retired senior bureaucrats have also received notices over discrepancies or because their present electoral records could not be linked to the previous revision. The list includes Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Principal Scientific Adviser Ajay Kumar Sood and Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, among others.
The Election Commission has clarified that issuance of a notice does not mean that an elector has been declared ineligible or that their name will be removed from the electoral roll. Electors receiving notices are required to submit replies and supporting documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer, who will examine the material before passing an order.
The notices are part of Delhi’s SIR exercise, under which electoral records are being verified against the previous intensive revision. The Delhi CEO has said that the exercise is aimed at ensuring that eligible citizens are included while ineligible entries are excluded.
The disposal of notices is scheduled to be completed by October 29, while the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on November 4, according to the fresh reported schedule.
