Srinagar: The inauguration of the Vande Bharat train, which was scheduled to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 17, has been postponed indefinitely. News agency JKNS quoted official sources as saying that the event has been postponed, and no new date has been announced. “There was no official communiqué regarding the inauguration on February 17, and the reports circulating were officially unconfirmed,” the sources said. The train service features remarkable engineering feats, including the Anji Khad Bridge, which has a 331-meter-high pylon, and the Chenab Bridge, standing at 359 meters, making it the world’s highest railway bridge. Designed to operate seamlessly even in harsh winter conditions, the train can withstand temperatures as low as -20°C, ensuring uninterrupted service in extreme cold. Operating on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), the train will cover the 150-kilometer journey between its first and last stations in approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, with key stops along the route, including Reasi and Banihal.
