Srinagar, Sep 28 (GNS): Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Monday said the BJP is also in favour of restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, but the language used in the resolution brought by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah cannot be accepted.
Speaking in the Assembly, as per GNS, Sharma said his party supports grant of statehood but is opposed to linking it with autonomy and other issues.
“There is no doubt that statehood is on BJP’s agenda. We also want statehood, but the language used in the resolution is not acceptable,” Sharma said.
He said the BJP is ready for a debate on statehood restoration but will not allow references to Article 370 or the autonomy resolution of 2000 to be part of it.
The statement comes amid heated exchanges in the House over the wording of the statehood resolution.(GNS)
