Uri, Jan 28 (GNS): A wild goat was spotted in Sukhdar village of Uri on Wednesday evening after it strayed into a residential area.

Wildlife Block Officer Raja Suhail told GNS that the animal entered the village after being chased by stray dogs, prompting residents to intervene and secure it to prevent any harm. The matter was immediately reported to the Wildlife Department.

“Although the animal is currently in the safe custody of locals, a departmental team led by the Wildlife Range Officer Uri-Boniyar, along with police personnel, is on its way to take over the animal,” he said.

“The wild goat will be medically examined after being taken into custody and subsequently shifted to a wildlife facility in Baramulla as per standard procedure,” he further said.

The Wildlife officer in the meantime hailed the villagers for their prompt response, which he said helped avert injury to the animal. (GNS)
