28 Families Affected, DC Among Officials Visit Spot

Jammu, June 29 (GNS): At least twelve houses were gutted in a massive fire in hilly area of Banihal in Ramban district, officials said.
Official sources told GNS that at 1200 hours, fire broke out in a residential house at Hijwa Trigam, Khari, near Mahoo village and spread to adjoining houses.
The area being hilly, IAF chopper was also pressed to douse off the fire, the officials said. Before the fire could be brought under control, 12 houses, mainly made of wood, were completely damaged. 28 families dwelling in these houses were affected, they said.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban also visited the area. While there no loss of life reported, the deputy commissioner announced immediate cash assistance, ration and essential supplies amongst victim families.
SHO Banihal Nayeem Matoo told GNS that soon after the fire, various measures were taken and blaze brought under control. “In all 28 families have been affected,” he said. (GNS)
