Srinagar, Sep 10 (GNS): A nine-year-old boy drowned while trying to retrieve a cricket ball from a stream in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Thursday, officials said.
The boy has been identified as Moomin Ahmad, son of Aashiq Hussain Ganie, resident of Ganie Mohalla, Kuloosa Bandipora.
Officials told GNS that the tragic incident happened when the boy went to fetch a cricket ball from Madhumati Nallah near District Police Lines (DPL) Bandipora and slipped into the water.
Soon after receiving the report, a team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Bandipora rushed to the spot and launched a search and rescue operation to trace the boy.
The operation was going on when reports last came in.(GNS)
