Uri, Feb 01 : Police on Monday arrested wife and her husband for allegedly extracting money from people by threatening to implicate them in false sexual harassment and  rape  cases.

A senior police officer said that the accused were arrested. “Both are hailing from Pawdan Thajal Uri”, he said.

A case FIR No 09 dated 30/01/2021 has been lodged under sections 420, 506 and 120-B of the IPC, while the accused have been remanded in police custody, an official said.

According to police, few mobile phones and signed bank cheques were seized from the accused persons. “The accused women used to get contact numbers of men from public places like banks, shops etc and would call them later on to lure/honeytrap them, record their conversations and later threaten them with implication in false sexual harassment/rape case etc to extract money from them through her husband”, official said, adding, “One such case came to light on January 29, when a shop keeper approached police with a complaint that the particular man was threatening him to pay Rs 40 thousand, failing which he would be framed in a sexual harassment case. They had duped many men in the area but they failed to report out of shame or threat.” (GNS)
